keyless remote standard on all years?
I want to know if I can get replacement key fobs for my trucks, all of which have power locks, and get the key fobs to work... I've heard that the sending unit/reciver is there if the truck has power locks, is this true for the later years only (late '99 and newer) or will this work for my early '99 also? Sure would be nice... please let me know if you have any input on this... where is a good place to get fobs? How hard is it to program them? Anything...
Thanks, and happy new year! |

Are you saying you have some for your trucks? Or you have a truck that doesn't have them and you would like them?
Mine started to not work so I just replaced the battery and it works great now. You can buy the batteries from any hardware store. If you need to get a new one, perhaps the dealer has them? Not sure...... |

my truck didn't come with any key fobs, ordered 2 new ones off of ebay for $12 shipped and had them programmed in 2 minutes. Super easy, and wayyyyy cheaper than a dealership

You can buy new fobs on Amazon for like $10-11.
Super easy to program them and to see if your truck has keyless entry, turn the key on-off anywhere from 5, 8, or 10 times (I forget exactly and it seems to vary by year), resting in the on position. The truck will lock and unlock automatically, showing you it is in programming mode. Press any button on ALL of the transmitters (gotta have them all with you to program or they won't work), and turn the key to off. Boom, done. |

thanks for the responses...
So let me get this right... if it has power locks, it may not have keyless entry? And the way to tell is to cycle the ingnition switch 5 to 10 times, and if it does, the locks will cycle, and at that time, if you had new remote to program, it's just a matter of hitting their buttons, and they will now work with your truck? If that's the case, I'll do that... I'm sure the Excursion has keyless, it came with a key fob remote, complete with dead battery, we tossed it, the case was broken, and.... well, it's gone now. So, I plan to order at least one set of fobs for the Excursion, and will try the key cycle trick as soon as I replace the door lock actuators on the red early '99 truck, to see if they cycle. As of now, they don't work at all... or mostly not at all... maybe the drivers door will lock, and that's all? Don't remember... Biggest question was if anyone knew if the keyless option was 'standard' if you had power locks... I hope so! |

I know that it wasn't standard on my 99 F-150 with keyless entry...

Buy doing the ignition cycle, when your locks unlock and lock don't just assume you have keyless entry and buy a key fob. I know from experience, my locks cycled when I did it so i bought a fob when I first got my truck and then tried to program it and it wouldn't work. I was getting so mad so I decided to call the dealer and have them check my VIN to see if keyless entry came on my truck and they said no. If you have they money I would highly recommend getting an aftermarket alarm with keyless entry. Plus having remote start is awesome, so nice having a warm truck waiting for me in the morning.

Yes run the VIN. My early 99 came with two key fobs and two non-working actuators. Haven't fixed them yet, but intend to. They must of at least offered keyless in the early 99. I trust the guy I bought my truck from, I know him.
