trouble turning over

when i go to start the truck first thing in the morning even with the block heater on for at least a couple hours, i have trouble turning it over this morning. it would make a whine noise then hear a subtle clunk...should i check my batteries or do you think my starter is going? in either case..

what are recommendations on replacement batteries?

also what wouls be considered the best starter motor and where is the best price?

any info. would be greatly appreicated thank you!

2002 Ford F-350 7.3L
Regular cab
8 ft. bed 4x4
Isspro EV gauges (pyro, trans temp, boost)
6637 Intake with Donaldson B085011
Ts 6 position performance chip
4" downpipe to a side pipe with 5" tip

I just picked up some Interstate batteries from Firestone, cheaper than from the Interstate dealer.I didn't think my old batteries were that bad....what a difference! How old are you're batteries?

I just replaced my Batteries and holy cow, what a difference! I put two MTP-65 interstates in it. Those are the biggest that Interstate offers, way less smoke on cold stats too. They are 850CCA

Same here. Thought the starter was going out. Turns out one of the batteries (mis-matched pair) had a dead cell in it and dropped to 4VDC with a good load on it. They didn't even have matching CCA either. Anyway...truck starts veddy nicely now.

Idk how old my batteries are...I bought my truck used this summer and I haven't replaced them yet

Had the same problem last winter. Switched to 5w-40 synthetic oil and the problem went away. Truck even started at 5 below without being plugged in. Before, it was a struggle at 20 above if it wasn't plugged in. At 15, it plain wouldn't start until being plugged in for 4-5 hours. Now, sounds like you have battery problems too. Last year I was sure my batteries were TU. Still going strong now.

Yeah I switched to 5w-40 a month ago and my truck likes it but deffinately feel like batteries could b going out. Are interstates good? I would like motorcraft bsd-65's just cause they have 900 cca !!! But I can't find them
