4X4 Light
Anybody know why my 4X4 light in the dash won't shut off? Did some driving in the snow and mud the other day and the light was still on this morning. Truck has not been in four wheel drive for 2 days now, but light is still on. Also couldn't get it into 4low the other day. I've had it in low before but couldn't get in the other day. What's going on?
Edit, I have manual lockers and manual transfer case. AND it is definetly not still in four wheel drive! Last edited by revolvingsteel; 12-22-2011 at 04:25 PM. |

The light could still be on if the electrical connection at the transfer case is clogged up with something causing it to ground out. As for the not being able to get into 4low. Were you trying to put it in while still moving(silly q i know)?

Were you able to still get into 4H? Do you get any noises or anything when trying to shift? Afterthought being could be the linkage or maybe a worn shift fork?

It goes in and out of four wheel drive easy, sometimes the light just stays on. I going to have time to crawl under it today hopefully its the connection. Just couldn't get into 4lo the other day, its worked before just not the other day when I could of used it
. Thanks for the help!

Well the light went off on its own. The electrical connection on top of the transfer case seemed fine maybe it was wet. Might wrap it in electrical tape.

I just replaced my switch on the transfer case. I had the same problem. Would sometimes work, would somethimes take a while to go off, finally just stopped working altogether. I have read of one person who disassembled his and managed to get it working, but the spring-loaded ball inside is held in with a crimp, and I would hate to have my crimp fatigue and drop a ball bearing into my t-case. Ordered mine from AutoPartsDirectToYou (found them through Amazon). PN 4L3Z-7E440-AB- $33.52 shipped to the door. 5 minutes to replace. Works like a charm!

Electrical tape isn't really waterproof. You might pull the plug off and shoot a little dielectric grease in there and then put it back on.
