Do you have more detail about the truck? Condition, Lariat? Is the noise in the front end such as a ball joint?

Yes, its a lariat, white with tan. Sounds like its coming from under the engine. Might be ball joint or bushing. overall, not bad for a 2002.

Is the knocking with engine RPM or with road noise or with bumps/expansion joints. Listed in order from most expensive to least expensive.

My 240k mile 2002 has a knock in the front end from loose sway bar bushings. Easy to tell. Go under the truck and grab the swaybar and it should be tight. Mine easily moves 1/8" up and down.

10k seems high you should be able to get it for about 1/2 of that with that many miles.
I got my 02 for 3,900.00 from a dealer and the problem I knew it had at the time was a exhaust leak. My truck needs injectors now.

If the engine is knocking I would not even give the guy for 5k because if you have to get into the engine you might as well replace the engine with a ready to drop in engine.

A 02 is worth aprox 10k that is if there are no major issues with the truck.

Wish them prices were up here. I bought my 01 240k for 17k (All in friend at dealership). Right now im looking at picking up an 01 lariat cc lb 4x4 black on tan with 160k for 18k. Agree with mgassel, if its the engine wouldn't pay that at all. best get a better look at the sounds location.

I dont think is the engine at all, it only makes that noise when I'm on a bumpy road. The truck runs great considering its got almost 300k miles.
In CA, the pricing is a little different, I wish I could get it for under $10k OTD. Maybe I should spend $400 and get a PPI done.

If you know a trusted mechanic, I'd have him take a look at it. Especially with that many miles and at that price.

I bought my '02 f250 CC 4x4 XLT w/ camper shell for $17500. It had 90k on it. Around here that was a helluva deal....
