ECT/EOT sensors not used?

So, I have reading some information and, to be quite honest, has effing blown my mind.
Not really.
So in trucks with an auto trans, the ECT sensor is not used? But the EOT is.
And it manual trans, the ECT IS used and the EOT is not?
That's what I've heard, and that the PCM uses the active sensor to calculate a temp for the other, inactive sensor?
Almost everything has a ? because that sounds so dumb and I'm very, very curious?

Ok well if the PCM doesn't use them it's not using them for something else cause I unplugged the ECT and had no gauge for a 30min drive there and back. I honestly could do without it, but will the PCM not be able to see that sensor's reading or does it use something else?
