Whats the difference 99 and 2001 powerstroke engine?
Hi there guys,
Im a NewB here and just had a few questions. Is there any mechanical differences between the 99 235HP powerstroke and 2001 275HP engine? Or did ford just turn the boost up? Also I've been hearing the headgaskets are not very durable and tend to go out when boosting higher levels with upgraded turbos etc. Is this true? Thanks in advance! |

If its an early 99 there is a difference in injectors and turbos late 99 it should be the same

The 7.3's are very reliable. You will have to turn up the boost pretty high to worry about head gaskets. The HP difference was due to tuning.

Rod change happened in late 2000 (all MY 2001 trucks) but the HP differance on a late 99 to 2001 is just programing. Your good with the stock heads to about 40#'s boost, way more then you will see with a chip or such... I am just now pushing the limits on boost...
