Air Intake Cover Missing

Ok next question. It appears that a cover is missing in the air intake system. The air seems to come in the front on the driver side, by the battery and into the filter. I have no cover around the end of the battery (see picture). Is this important? Would seem it would be drawing warm air from the engine compartment without the cover. Is this something I need to get from Ford?

I have populated my gallery. Couple of pictures of the truck and my old ride and several engine pictures. Let me know if you see anything else missing.

If you look at some of the CAI's the tub is taken out.. some keep it in there and ad the Zoodad mode to get a true ram air... I wouldn't say your in danger... If its something you dont mind picking up or plan on running a CAI I personally would get it. Mine is beat up (8 year old) and will replace it when i add my CAI... Will it make any difference I have no clue but at least it will make me feel better...

While your add it remove that foil off the pipe and get some mroe noise for your turbo..

I don't think that it really will hurt your engine, it does give a route for the cold air to come in should you decide to do the ZooDad, but other than that it's still pulling air, right? Personally I'd get it just to have it on there. Just my

Thanks for the thoughts. I will probably check the local truck junk yard to see what they have before stopping at Ford. Since I will not be pushing the 7.3 very hard I haven't planned many, if any mods for performance. The ZooDad looks like a simple enough upgrade if the extra air helps MPG or anything under light loads.

My normal full load will be a slide in popup camper that weights about 1500lbs wet and a trailer with a light car on it that weights about 2000lbs total.

Did a little shopping today for the air intake cover. Local truck junk yard had 3 SD 7.3L trucks all were missing the cover and the owner of the yard drives a 7.3L and his was also missing. Said he would have some more 7.3s coming in and to check back (he spoke highly of them, has 350K on his with no problems). Stopped at another regular yard, they didn't have any but looked on the wire, only could get the full air cleaner assembly for $125. Checked at Ford and they would only sell the full assembly and they wanted $250.

Any of you guys that have done intake mods that replaced the whole air cleaner want to sell just the cover?

Guess I'll do without for now.

I started making a cover today and have something that fits pretty good but trying to figure out how to secure it. I also don't know what the stock one looks like anyone have a picture of that side of the engine, they could post or point me to?
