Horn/Alarm Goes Off after Disconnecting Battery

I have a 2002 F350 7.3L truck.

I disconnected the battery negative plugs while doing work on the engine (new glow plugs and UVCH).

I reconnected the battery plugs after completing the work and noticed the interior lights came on and the doors automatically locked.

My key remote didn't work.

If I open the door with the key the alarm/horn goes off.

It seems the truck has defaulted to some kind of theft/stolen mode?

Is there a way to reset the alarm without taking it to the dealer?

Do you have an aftermarket alarm on it? I've never seen a factory alarm react this way. Even on the Lincolns all it does is set the horn off when you open the door for the first time.

I don't think so.
I checked underneath the dash for an aftermarket module and didn't see anything.

Something buzzes/clicks real fast when I connect the neg. plugs to the batteries on the passengers side of the engine. This happens for 20 sec or so and then stops.

Don't know if this is related or not to the alarm setting the truck defaults to now.

Tried to reprogram the remote per owner's manual instruction to no avail in hopes of solving the default alarm setting.

Also, checked the horn fuse and it looks good.

I'm out of ideas.

This is going to suck if this happens every time I disconnect the batteries.

Should I try getting a new GEM?
Or is it time for the dealer?

I have one factory remote.
It is a ford remote per the part number on the back it.

I noticed today the "door ajar" light stays on all the time.

This happened a couple of years ago but I eliminated the problem with the WD40 trick.

So I tried that again tonight thinking the truck is getting confused when I first plug the battery back on and it sees the doors are "open" but this didn't work either. The door open light is on all the time now.

Maybe the VSM is bad.

I made some progress.

I was able to get the FOB to work again.
Not really sure why the 8 off to on cycles didn't work before but I think it had something to do with reconnecting the battery with the key in the ON position.

So I'm able to open and lock doors with the FOB.
This eliminated the alarm going off.

Still have the door ajar light illuminated though.
The dome light takes about 30 minutes to turn off after I lock the truck.
It turns off after I start and get the truck moving.

The auto lock feature doesn't work once the truck is moving though.

My guess is the VSM "thinks" the door(s) are open so it won't allow me to enable the auto lock feature.

I have allowed the dome light to turn off, and then open each door to try to find if one of the door switches was bad.

All doors illuminate the dome light.

Can someone confirm if the dome light and door opening is the same electrical signal the VSM reads?

Still thinking the VSM is the problem.
