loud bang then smoke from passenger seat

I started my 02 PS and a loud bang like a fire cracker came from the passenger seat then smoke came from the seat, I could not find any burns and or see where the smoke came from, I did notice some wireing under the seat but does not look burnt or shorted. On occasion my airbag light has been flashing and staying on. I hope someone can shed a little light on this weird issue.

Im not sure but I dont think it has air bags in the seats, There are some wires under where the passenger side seatbelt comes up through the seat, none of them look burnt or exploded but i did find a loose peice of copper 1/2 inch by 3inches laying in the seat track. Not sure if it caused a short or blew off somthing, When I put my nose down there I can smell the smoke smell. I will keep looking and if anyone has any other Ideas please send them my way

You nailed it, Just talked to a friend that works on these things all the time, I blew the pre tentioner, they apparently have a gunpowder charge and it blew, sounded and smelled just like a fire cracker, Now the bad part is they are expensive, Im thinking im just going to not fix it. I mean heck I survived this long on all my old trucks without a pre tentioner and this is my girlfriends side anyway. Thanks for the help.

If the girl friend were to read this... then you wouldn't have to fix it cause she wouldn't be riding there anymore
