Clean up

This weekend I'm going to have some time on my hands, so I'm going to clean up my truck. Question is what are some things that I can do to (with common tools) clean things up, get things running better, and just get my engine clean? Truck has 165k on it, and only problems experienced are my water pump went out and had to replace my e-brake due to having to use it often to hook up to trailers. Other than the water pump going out I've had no real problems!

Also the screen that tells me the MPG, and direction went out. Doesn't want to turn on at all. Any of y'all have experience with this same issue? What could I do to maybe get it working again? I want to see if I can just fix it because at the ford house they claimed that it was an $800 piece.

Any thoughts and advice greatly appreciated!

the overhead computer is very often a loose sodler joint iiirc. somewhere around here there is a writeup, ill see if i can find it today. i think all it requires are screwdrivers and decent soldering equipment.

as far as cleaning, i noticed purple power worked really well in the engine bay. i would reccomend carefully using the engine wash feature at the car wash, and on the safe areas use pressure to remove the grease/dirt chunks if necessary. the rest just get some rags and purple power. i got a big jug at wally worled and used an empty spray bottle, i didnt want to pay for the tiny spray bottle when i could get a jug and use it for the driveway or something.

You can exchange that console circut board for one that has been rebuilt and improved. Check E-bay it was only about $30 plus shipping.

good news, thanks! improved how? i am making the assumption that the solder joints work loose due to the heat buildup in that area when the sun beats on it over the summer... thoguhts?

My dad had the same issue with the over head computer only it fried the display twice dont know why but it did

hopefully thats your problem, i couldnt find the improved one on ebay. but ill keep looking, it might be worth the $30 over locating a soldering iron..
