NO POPPING NOISE I have it on mine!! It is a ehasust break olny.. The Semi's have a compression relief along with the exhaust break.. The compression relief is impossabul on these engines. It could be done if designed from hte very start however Lotsa$$$$$ involved and not needed on these small trucks.. Bill

There is no popping sound cause its not braking per cylinder but braking the exhaust as a whole unit. So no it doesn't sound as cool as a Jake and i believe like william was saying these small engines aren't designed for that high of braking compression. I think i have read somewhere that you would end up bending parts of your motor if somehow you made a compression brake for it. If you want the "JAKE" sound you just have to tape a big rigs jake on a microphone and then play it really loud on some big bass speakers outside your truck

I thought about putting an exhaust brake on my truck, but was advised against it by a Ford Master Diesel Tech. It's supposed to be a problem with the hydraulic lifters being overcome by the increased back pressure at higher rpm, causing valve "floating" and the pistons hitting the valves, causing major damage. I'm not sure how high the rpm would have to be to cause this, but I'm leery of trying it to find out!
