doing guzzle coolant filter mod but 1 problem

i got the kit from carquest and a bunch of fittings and everythings perfect except guzzle said on the side of the thermostat there is a 3/8 plug i got it out and i put in my 3/8 fitting and its not tight it kinda acts like it has a diffrent thread or sumthing i tried next size up.... what am i doing wrong plz and thanks

The plug is 1/4" NPT IIRC and is on the water pump, not the thermostat housing. But again it has been since 2003 since I did mine. I would have gotten the kit from Dieselsite, but it doesn't matter. Guzzle has some good info, but not all is good. He also has a history of .......................... nevermind.

of what??? i found the right size it was 3/8 npt i had the wrong thread fitting.... should i not use the plug on the thermostat? for my coolant filter?
