Considering first powerstroke

I am looking at upgrading my 71k mile 99 F150 to a 99-03 7.3 powerstroke. I found a 2000 F350 CC DRW 4x4 lariat that has a newer front clip, newer tailgate (clear title, just updated looks) 210k miles that needs a trans. Any idea what this truck is worth as is? Seller is asking $8500, says you can get a new trans for $1500. I can install a trans but doing research, $1500 won't buy much, the BRT or John Woods will be $3600! So if I can get the truck for cheaper, would it be worth it? I know its a diesel and the weak link is a trans which of course will be fixed, but 210k is a lot of miles to me. Any thoughts/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

If the truck has been well taken care, as in scheduled maintenance, of I think that is a good price. 210k on a 7.3 is nothing and if it's in good condition you still have many miles left to go. At $8500 for the truck and $3600 for the tranny, $12100 is still a good deal!

Well I found out the guy buys and sells diesels, a wanna be dealer flipping them. So that makes me bail out from the deal. He said he bought it two weeks ago, lost his job and needs money. Now he is saying he makes tons of money flipping trucks and took the truck on a trade. He will take $7500 for it, but who knows what else is wrong with it, he certainly doesn't know since he just got it. Something I just don't feel right about and I'd rather wait for the right deal to come around. Thanks for the reply.

You can ask if he be willing to let you take it and have it inspected. If so, you could find out what's wrong with it, if anything.

I just don't like buying from someone who is looking to rip someone off, flipping stuff. I'd rather buy from someone honest who is selling their truck for a different reason. I do like the truck, its pretty sick looking. Here's the ad:

Dig into it. He might be a rip off or he might just like these trucks buy them and sell them at a fair price! Don't be afraid to look up in years to. The 6.0 is a great motor as well.

offer him 3300 and get a tranny and call it a day...

im all about buying and selling stuff , but when i do i dont tell stories to sell something..

i dont know how you found out he only paid 3k for that truck but if thats true and its been in an accident offer him his investment back maybe a little more and buy a tranny and drive it!!! an accident doesnt mean its been wrecked, i had a truck that was backed into by someone , with the money i got for the dmage i could have easily converted the headlights , grill, and bumper...

i know i would not be opposed to buying it for the right price

Yea the price he paid is so low. Go in with an offer that will give him a tad of profit and even after a new trans, you will be less invested than it's worth. Trucks like this are better than the stock market!
