Motor Oil
Is it absolutely necessary to use Delo or an oil specially formulated for diesels? I may be getting a 7.3 soon and have about 5 gallons of Amsoil 10w40 that needs to be used up. Can I use it safely?

x2! Diesel oil has a specific additive package, including an anti-foam agent whcih is crucial for our injectors.

CI4/CJ4 oil ONLY.

^^^ Agree, gas engine oil typically does not have the anti-soot additives and chemistry that a diesel oil NEEDS to have. Also gas oils lack the proper anti-foaming additives, very important in a HEUI, and doesn't have as much of the anti-wear additives diesels need.
Is it this oil? AMSOIL - SAE 10W-40 Synthetic Motor Oil (AMO) If so it is CI-4+ you can run it. |

i agree with above standard oil doesn't have the properties that you need. I rec. rotella 15w40 you can buy in a 2.5 gallon jug at tractor supply for around 33.00 ( thats here in TN ) and go to Advance and pick up motorcraft oil filter for around $12.00 fuel filter is $25.00 but thats my opinion and everyone has one..
