4R100 to ZF 6 swap
Like the title says, I'm wanting to do a ZF 6 swap on my 2000 Powerstroke. What all will I need to do this swap and what would be the best place to get it from? Also, will my ESOF 4x4 still work with this swap?

This is a HARD one. If your really going to do it, you'd be better off getting a ZF6 equiped donor truck and swapping over all the parts needed. Just to make sure that you have all the nessesary parts and pieces. I'm sure your ESOF 4WD will work, though you MIGHT need to get an auto driveshaft...I dunno if the auto and the 6spd trannys are the same length.
May I ask WHY you want to do the swap? You can get a built auto tranny that is a lot stronger than the stock ZF6 for a few grand, probably less than it would cost to do the swap. If your looking at the possibility of the ZF6 going faster on the track, it isn't. I'm about 1.5 seconds slower than a replica auto truck with the same mods. If it's for towing, like I said, a built auto will be stronger. MPG? You can get a Gear Vendors overdrive unit for a grand or two. Just giving you some cheaper options. |

Why? Because I don't want an automatic transmission. Never have liked them and I never planed on buying a PSD with an automatic, but this one was too good of a deal to pass up...

It's not going to be a cheap swap. If I had it all to do over again, I would have gone with an AUTO truck. For what I've payed for a ZF6 rebuild and two clutches, I could have a BADA$$ auto tranny that is nearly bullitproof.
If you only wanna do it b/c your partial to a manual tranny, I would look at getting another truck. Swapping the tranny's is an expencive PITA! |
