Need advise about my new 2000 7.3

I just bought a 2000 f250 s/c with 290,000 on it. Should I be adding anything to my fuel and what type of chip/programmer could I add for economy?

id run power service or 2 stroke oil.

And Superchips is always a good canned tuner. Or Id recommend buying a flip chip with custom tunes

I love my Superchips. But then again, I haven't been in a 7.3 that has PHP or DP tunes. I add a quart of 2 stroke oil every fill-up. Just got 18.5 mpg last fill up.

2000 7.3 PSD 4X4 extended cab. 4R100 transmission. 3.73 gears. K&N intake, 4" turbo-back straight pipe, WW, HPX mod, CCV mod, Superchips Cortex programmer. 124,000 miles. 1/4 mile 14.929 at 89 mph at 4,000 ft

A diy intake is pretty much the cost of the filter and some parts in the garage.. so do that n you can run any of the standard tunes... i'd get a daily driver tune, a tow tune, a race tune, maybe high idle? whatever floats your boat.

though you may get some turbo surge in a 'hot' tune with the stock wheel.

I have a PHP Phoenix chip and I like it a lot. I got the 6 position chip for my E99 F350. Here's the settings:
  1. Stock
  2. 1200 RPM High Idle
  3. 80 HP Daily Driver
  4. 65 HP Light Tow
  5. 40 HP Medium Tow
  6. 25 HP Heavy Tow
PHP will program the chip based on what mod's you have and the type of driving you're going to do. That made the Phoenix the ideal chip for me as I really don't have any wish to try and change the programming myself.

I put an aFe Stage II intake on my truck because I go into some really dusty areas. I couldn't be happier with it. It is performing flawlessly.

The previous owner also put on a 4" exhaust from the turbo back. Other than that the motor is basically stock. It has the smaller turbo that came with the E99. I haven't had it open to see what kind of condition it's in yet, but I suspect it needs some attention as I'm not getting the boost or fuel economy I want. I'm shooting for 15-18 mpg. Right now I'm at 12.

The only other mod's are a BD Exhaust Brake and a catalytic converter. I had to install the cat because the particular mfg date on my truck requires it. The previous owner apparently didn't put it back when he had the exhaust done. Wish I could take it off. I suspect it's responsible for some of my mileage woe's.

Be gentle, it's my first PowerStroke.

E99 SD 7.3L CC DRW 44
PHP Phoenix 6 Position Chip
aFe Stage II Intake
Wicked Wheel
4" Exhaust
Edge Insight CTS
Edge EAS EGT Probe
Edge TurboTimer
BD Exhaust Brake
BD TorqLoc
Pierce 2T Dump Bed
PacBrake Air Bags (Rear)
Viair Onboard Air Compressor
Escort 9500ix Radar Detector (Worth it's weight in gold)
Cobra 29LX CB.

I've been running Diesel Kleen every tank for a while now, but I am thinking about alternating tank fulls between DK and 2-stroke. I know DK has some lubricity, but from what I've been reading it's not as potent as the 2-stroke. It helps a little, and it does keep injectors and the fuel pump clean, my fuel filter looks great after 10k, could probably even push it longer, but I don't. Before DK my filters were tired and old looking at 10k.

Ha we went 100,000 miles on the same fuel filter! I know thats a BAD idea but we cant undo it now. Now i change it every 10-15 thousand. I do like 2 stroke oil though. Helped MPG's a little
