2000 Ex w/ rebuilt transmission

I'm looking to buy a 2000 Excursion, that only has 97k on it. It has a rebuilt transmission, and the mechanic used Transtar parts. It's actually the mechanic who is selling it, apparently the owner was about to get repo'd and just abandonded it at the mechanic over a year ago. Mechanic has had quite a time with the DMV and is apparently getting the title soon (he says this happens more often than you might guess). Apparently the transmission went out because the owner used it as a work truck for his painting business and towed a trailer everywhere with him.

Should the rebuilt transmission last a good amount of time, and is Transtar quality? The guy said Transtar is industry standard and that the new transmission is "heavy duty."

Also, because it sat for about 12 mo, the A/C doesn't work. Is it as simple getting it recharged, and is that relatively inexpensive on this vehicle? the batteries are brand new, are there any other things I should be worried about since it sat so long? I test drove it, and it seemed to run well and was fairly responsive, but I have nothing to compare it to, I've never driven a PSD before.

I feel like I'm getting a decent deal on the mechanical part of it, partly because it's in poor cosmetic shape. All the other PSD Excursions around are priced 3k-8k more, and have more miles, or are 2WD. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Yea, that trans will be fine if built correctly. The AC needs to be checked (find the low line and see if there is any pressure if so, there is a chance there is not a leak). Also check the pump to make sure it engages. When it is low, it will not. There is a sensor on the system by the firewall. Pull the plug and jump it with a wire, the compressor should start running. Then buy refrigerant!
