More turbo sound in exhaust at idle?
How can I get more turbo sound out of my 2001 F-250 with a 7.3 at idle. I have 4 in. header back Magna Flow exhaust. My friend has a 6.0 with a MBRP 4in. exhaust and it sounds like a jet engine. Can I get a better sound out of my 7.3?

A 6.0 has a completely different turbo than a 7.3 and that will account for the difference in sound. the only thing you can do to get more turbo noise besides the straight pipe is you can add a open intake whether you buy one or build one and some people do a foil delete. and lastly if you really want some noise you can go with a wicked Wheel.
Your 7.3 will never sound like a 6.0 at an idol. Jim |

You could always put a 6.0 turbo on it lol. not really worth it though. I Saw a 6.0 Turbo on a 7.3

I've heard mixed results about the wicked wheel... some people that I've talked to said that it sounds more like a hissing sound than an actual whistling sound. I don't know... I also want my turbo to sound more aggressive, but I'm pretty sure that I'm going to have to upgrade the turbo to get the sound I want.
What year's your buddy's 6.0? If it's an '03, good luck. The '03 6.0 turbo has the best sound out of all the powerstrokes. I wish there was a way to make ours sound like that! |

My early 99 has a WW and it has a pretty pronounced whistle at idle with my 4in turbo-back, I also have a muffler. It really opens up when you stomp on it, even with the quiet AIS the turbo sings. I guess that's why Ford did away with the WW in 99.5, too loud for most people (but not for us
).
