which remote start should i get?

I live in utah and we have cold winter and hot summers. I bought my diesel in january and toughed it out having to go out, start it, come back in and let her warm up. Now its starting to get hot and i start it up to get the a/c going. I will admit, i'm getting lazy. I want to be able to just push a button and let it do its thing so when i walk out, its ready to go. I have never had a remote start system before and my questions are: is it a bad idea? If not, which brand and model should i get? Do they make one with a turbo time built in? (kill two birds with one stone).

Vernon

EDIT: my truck does have a factory alarm with remote. Id love to be able to still use the factory stuff if possible. Does for make a factory remote start for these trucks like they do the newer ones?

BUMP

I'd be interested in this too cuz I live up on the 3rd floor. I saw some posts from back in the day about a "Gold" remote starter from Ford. Most of the feedback I saw recommended going through Ford instead of a 3rd party. I asked a kid at Best Buy one day and he said, "I don't know, I'm sure we could do it". Ya, that ain't gonna cut it.

Quite a few brands come to mind. I have been doing this for a while and have had a chance to install just about every brand of RS.

Audiovox (prestige, code)
AutoPage
CompuStar
D.E.I. (viper, clifford, python)

Stick to a name that's been around a while. I personally have a Viper on my truck and a Viper on my wife Expedition.

Does your viper have a built in turbo timer as well? Just curious because I'm interested in purchaising one myself.

most of the viper/DEI ones do have turbo timers and also glowplug timers, I installed one on my dad's '03 6.0 a few years ago, and on his '11 chevy half ton. been thinking about one for mine. the remote completely replaces your factory remote for door locks and antitheft.

I personally have an autopage remote start with anti-theft. Absolutely love it. It has a two way paging system with incredible range. Both times my truck was broken into in El Paso (while I was on leave), the anti-theft prevented it from being taken. From then on out, I kept my 7mm ready to go and slept with the pager-fob on my night stand. Best alarm (and I've had quite a few) I've ever had.

I've insalled mostly dei and autopage over my career. Seen plenty of others but I would stick to one of the above. Viper, Clifford, or autopage. I personally have autopage at the moment but they are each over 5yrs old.

I have a Viper alarm and autostart on the truck and my 300ZX, works great and would recommend! Does have a turbo timer and waits for glow plugs.
