new to powerstroke just bought f-350

Hi guys well going through the big D and bought a replacment for my 06 dodge with a cummins yeayea i know i will prob get some greif but oh well.

So just bought a 2000 f-350 4x4 reg cab long bed with 196000 on the odo
runs good but i have already had to replace the powersteering pump in the last week come to find out they are junk, so big boring question what are the top 10 things i need to look at and take care of or need to check or plan for.

I have ben around the diesel community for some time and have a pretty good knowledge of dodge but dont know jack about powerstroke other than the truck puts a grin on my face!

Welcome new guy. Why do you think you need a new PS pump? Maybe a PS fluid flush would help... Helped a ton on mine...

closing in on 200k-

Injector o-rings (probably injectors before 300k)
Make sure all the clips are still intact on the airbox

and all the typical stuff such as u-joints, brakes, and bearings.

Just like the cummins, the 7.3 will take care of you if you take care of it. That said, CPS is a major known problem, HPOP(high pressure oil pump) o-rings and fitting may begin to leak. As mentioned, injector o-rings, glow plugs and relay. If you haven't already, do what others have said and check your intake, or do the DIY filter (google 6637 mod). Typical stuff really, turbo impeller, fluids, intake boots, yadda yadda yadda. Oh, if you haven't already noticed, check out your serpentine belt routing Thats it as far as engine. The real weak link in these trucks is the trans, so keep that in mind. I hear a BTS valve body will go a long way in helping to not grenade your trans. Oh, vehicle speed sensor is another common thing on these trucks to fail, replaced mine a couple weeks ago. Good luck with it and have fun. Any pics of the truck?

Hi fellow newbie , I am too . I have a 2001 F250 Super duty 4x4 189,000 miles ,been a great truck, no troubles 'til today Got a P1316 code, sure hope the clips are all I need. Cool site wish I would have found it before I had this code come up, oh well I am a member now so am looking forward to all the good info here!

I only have 2 clips in air box am i missing something? btw thanks for the reply have ben looking at injector pricing as well as prices for hpop so i can budget for it! how hard is it to replace the o-rings should be same as aCAT right? 2 o-rings and brass cup?

Cps is that the cam sensor or crank sensor? if so where are they located?

I REPLACED MY O RINGS WITH O RINGS FROM A TRACTOR PART STORE THAT I WORK AT AND THAT MY FRIEND DIDNT WORK NOT TO MENTION THE FOUR HOURS IT TOOK ME TO DO IT...IF YOU HAVE THE TIME TO GET IN IT AND PULL THE PARTS YOU NEED TO THEN YOU CAN DO IT PROBABLY FAIRLY SIMPLE BUT DO NOT WHAT SO EVER GET IN A HURRY WITH IT

TURNS OUT IT WASNT EVEN MY O RINGS LEAKING IT WAS MY PUMP IT WAS LEAKIN AROUND THE PLATE ON THE BACK WHERE THAT SNAP RING IS LUCKILY I FOUND A GOOD USED PUMP, BUT MY MECHANIC THAT I HAVE CHANGING MY PUMP SAID THE CHEAPEST HE CAN FIND IS 700 AND CHEAPESTI FOUND WAS 430 ON A HPOP

so am i crazy or if the serpentine belt goes the upper radiator hose will be torn off??
