My truck was broken into last night

It is currently being parked in the street since its usual spot in my driveway is taken up by a toyhauler I just purchased.

Luckily I heard the alarm in time and I ran out and they took off without taking anything. The problem is they gained access to my truck by popping out the door lock on the driver side. I was looking around and autozone can get me one in two days but the problem is I'd rather use the same key that I currently have. I would rather not deal with 2 separate keys. Does anyone know if I can purchase a lock and have a lock smith key it for my current key?

Any advice on where to purchase the lock? Is this something that I shouldn't cheap out on and go through the dealer? I need to get this fixed asap.

Also what are the odds of anything else in the lock unlock system being damaged? the truck still locks and unlocks fine with my alarm but what has me worried is now the handle to open the door from the outside feels weird. It now has some play until it finally engages and opens the door.

Your dealer will be able to key you a new lock no problem. They keyed a lock for my tailgate for $40ish, including the price of the lock.

Something to consider - Some people replace their front outside handles with the rear outside handles so there is no access to the keyhole.

Did you purchase the lock at the dealer as well? Did they have it in stock?

Thanks for the advice but then they'd probably break one of my windows. I will give this a lot of thought. Thank you.

I called a few local dealers and found pricing from 52-88 dollars. I had no idea different dealers would charge more for the same part. Anyway the cheapest one in stock is 62 dollars so I'm going to go purchase that one. They said they could re key it but were unsure of how much it will cost. Thanx

Yeah, the $40ish included the price of the lock. I'm good friends with the guys there, so I'm not sure if they'd normally charge to key the lock or what.

Sorry to hear. Glad they didn't clean out your truck.

They can also just pry up the cheap plastic handle to get access. You may want to look into a set of jimmi hammers
