What to look out for
I have owned a 99 F250 and a 00 Excursion both with 7.3 PSD's. I have since sold them and am looking at a 00 F350 dually 7.3 PSD with a manual. 93k.
Since I've never really looked at the 350's, duallys, or anything truck with a manual, what are some of the areas of concern that I should look at. I am pretty close to pulling the trigger on it, but would like to hear what I should look out for. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

You'll love the ZF-6 trans, put in a tuner and hang on.

Does the trans shift into gears easily? On my red truck, I think the syncro's are worn in 2nd gear, no slipping into gear when shifting quickly... basicly, if it feels good, no gear whine, you should be ok... no easy to check the fluid leval (you'd have to crawl under the truck), but I would do that for sure...

Any other known things that I should look for?

I should probably add I'm going to be pulling a ~10k TAG trailer as well. How is does the manual hold up for towing?

So I take it these things are just rock solid then? Nothing to look out for when purchasing a used one with ~90k on it???

That's nothing for miles and if the gears feel right and it does not slip you should be fine the 6 speed is so nice my wife has that in hers

Thanks for the info guys.
I went and test drove the truck today and everything seemed nice. Other that it needed a major cleaning inside and out, no big deal. A couple of questions though 1. It has a "L" gear, then 1-4, and OD. Is that considered the 6 speed or a 5 speed? 2. I was told it was a Lariat model. Is there anything other than the seats that make it a Lariat? Should it have cruise control and keyless entry standard in the Lariat package? I didn't see anywhere on the truck where it was marked Lariat. Maybe Ford didn't do that in 2000?? 3. It also seemed odd to me that the 7-way plug for the trailer connection was in the bed, and not on the receiver by the bumper. Is this normal? There was no connection by the bumper other than the small flat 4 way. 4. It seemed to buzz a decent RPM at just 55. Over or around 2k. Which seemed high. Is there a way to check what rear end gearing it has. He didn't know. Your help is greatly appreciated. |
