Mileage?

I have located an 01 7.3 what is to many miles? Or at what point would you be concerned about a 7.3.

more than miles, ask about maintenance records. also ask about oil change intervals. oil changes are critical in a 7.3.

items to check:
look at the turbo compressor wheel, look for chips and feel for shaft play
look for leaks
check the color and smell of the tranny fluid
try for a cold start (when the engine has been off all night) see how well she fires up
jiggle the pulleys, espicially the water pump for pulley play
test drive, warm up and get on it, hows it feel?
be sure 4x4 works
place the oil fill cap upside down on the oil fill hole, while the motor is cool and running, if the cap flips off there may be too much blow by, if it just vibrates off its fine. poor mans compression check.

i would say anything under 200k or 250k on a well maintained PSD is lower mileage. thats JMHO

Thanks for the heads up. I will check those things. It has 260K. So I am not to worried. I think there is probably another 100k in it. I will let yall know how it turns out.

thats not too bad. i had 297k when mine got totaled. ran like a champ. if yuo take care of it properly they can run a really long time. there are plenty 500k+ truck out there.

IMO, the condition of your injectors and your compression has a lot to do with it.

my 97 had 296k when i sold it, and ran like a champ! had it since brand new. see i myself wouldn't hesitate to take a truck that was mine all the way to 200k+ miles, but I'm weary of buying vehicles with real high mileage for the fact that i didn't put those miles on it. who knows how bad that truck was driven by the other owner/owners for those 200k miles? i bought my 2000 with 91k i think it had on it, and that was back in 08. just passed 3 years ago last month. it's got 167k now, and i've had minimal problems except constant front end grief. it was in an accident before, and i've had everything replaced, but still.


not trying to sway you or anyone else from buying a very high mileage vehicle, but just know what to look for!
