A/C connector melted

My A/C would go in and out. I noticed that the connector that turns the compressor on and off wasn't working right. You could move it and it would engage the compressor but then when you let off it would disengage. I pulled it off today and it was melted. I tried to disassemble the connector but I couldn't get the wires to come out. I was going to put them on the other two holes instead. Anyway, I clipped an electrical connector down and stuck the small metal piece into the hole and clipped it back on. So far it's holding and I get a good connection. Just wondering why this melted though. Should I replace the entire pig tail?

No idea why connectors do that but have seen it in the past a few times. If your set works then would just continue on with it and check it from time to time

Did they give you the entire pigtail with all connectors or just that one? I was thinking of pulling one off the salvage yard trucks.
