Could be to good to be true!
I found a 2002 F250 lariat 4x4 with 8" lift, edge chip, MBRP exhaust, AFE intake and 20" Helo rims with 35x15.50 MT's for $7400. He says it's only got 84,000 miles on it, never been wrecked and mechanically sound with no problems.
Is it me or is this just to good to be true. It's a private seller around my house that just has a for sale sign in the window. I haven't got in the truck yet or heard it run, but it looks awesome. So what should I be looking for or at on this truck to make sure I'm not getting duped. This would be my first diesel, although I've been around them quite a bit. Thanks for your help in advance! |

If it sounds to good it usually is. At a minimum, run a carfax or similar, make sure it is not a salvaged title, especially from a flood area and he has clear title in hand. Spend $25 and get a oil sample and send to Blackstone or similar for analysis. You can overnight it and have results in less than 36 hours. While waiting for the oil analysis to come back, go to local delaerships and find our any history and speak to any other local shop he uses. Get detailed maint records/receipts, look at how clean his other cars are and ask a lot of questions. Go with your gut feeling or you will regret it later. Good luck

I would look it over very carefully. That is a very low price for something like that.

Guys it was all a scam! The truck was obviously real, but the guy who was answering the phone didn't want to deal in person, didn't want to make a cash transaction but wanted to set everything up through Ebay transaction services. Which I know nothing about or never heard of. Needless to say, the truck is no longer parked there and when I had my wife call to see where it went, the guy gave her some bogus location and gave the same story of lets start getting all of your information to Ebay Vehicle Purchase Protection.
So needless to say, he was using this truck to lure people into a scam of some kind. |

Found a similar good deal in Nevada. Suspected a scam, asked when and where I could meet him to look at and pay, Said he worked on a military base and wasn't allowed off. I said that was unusual, I thought they could do what they wanted on their off time. Needless to say I nebr heard hide nor hair of the guy after that.
