Fleetguard - paint finish, basic vs. Stratapore

Used a Fleetguard LF3630 last Fall, changed it today. The bottom, well, top of the filter had quarter sized flakes of paint missing, and was pretty rusty. Talked with a garage owner buddy of mine, said this was often seen on the basic Fleetguard filters. Mileage was only 4,000km (L.T. 3000 miles).

Has anybody run the Stratapore version on a 7.3 in Canada, or the Northern USA (salt exposure) ? I don't off-road the truck, the worst it sees is my gravel driveway, which I slowly back into. I'm wondering if the paint stands up any better on the Stratapore version ?

Not looking to argue, I think the Fleetguard's (even the basic ones) do a decent job, I just don't feel like paying for a premium filter, then have major rust problems in (much) less than a year.

I've liked the Purolator Pure Ones I run on my other vehicles, it's a toss up whether I go Strat or P1 on the 7.3 next time. Rgds, D.
