Spare key options

I only received one key for my 00 Ex. With keyless entry functional, I am not rushed for a second key, but should get one for just in case.

What is my options other than $50 at Wal Mart for a key and programming?

Anything cheaper or better?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Do you have a key hole in the doors or are the only ways to enter the truck is keyless entry and key FOB? My truck has the key hole and I just have a spare key to use to unlock it if I need to. Spare key made at local hardware store for $1-2.

Excursions have the PATS key. Super Duties do not. If you only have one key, then you've gotta go to the dealer/locksmith/anywhere that can program keys. See if you can make friends with the dealer. When I had my F-150, they sold me two keys and programmed them both for the cost of the keys and programming one. It was like $70. Yeah, the cost sucks, but at least nobody can start your truck with a screwdriver like they can ours.

I do have the keyhole with the keyless entry. I only need the PATS key for a spare.

Looks like I will just get one at Wally World. I may stop at the dealer and see what they will do to help me.

Thanks,
Mike

Not sure if this works at all but I found this on an F150 forum just now regarding PATS keys. I did not write this, just copied from the forum.

"1st look at the top of the key for a little door. If there's a door or cover its a PATS. I went to ford and bought a non-ford blank for $8. That included cutting key but not programming. They wanted 1/2 hour labor for programing. I told to just give to me and I'll follow the instructions in my manual. I did- It worked-took about 5 minutes which included the manual reading time.

Hope this helps---Bob"

Not sure if you have ekeys for cars in your area but they are a lot cheaper than the dealer and have the keys and capability to program
