replacing synchronizer 99 f350 6spd manual
so i'm still awaiting arrival of my new (to me) 1999 f350 with a 6speed manual truck but while i am waiting i'm diagnosing some problems with it. it appears based on my reading that i need a new 1st/2nd gear synchro. now i've seen people on this forum mention that it's not a terrible job to do but when i look through my new haynes repair manual i don't see the job listed. anyone care to enlighten me? also the part appears to be a ford dealer only part, this seems strange to me given that it's a 99.
they want 580 dollars for it which seems a bit steep... i may just live with the double clutching to get into 2nd gear if its gonna cost me that much. thanks -kirk |

As I understand it, the ZF-6 isn't intended to "serviceable" by regular mechanics. It's intended to be entirely replaced or rebuild at a very "talented" facility.
