First powerstroke!

ok so I'm new to diesels in general and also ford. I'm looking at buying a 99 powerstroke with 160k miles on it.

first thing, is there a vin check I can do on the forum somewhere? (I couldnt find anything)

seccond, what do I need to look for when buying?

is it true that the 99 was the only year of the 7.3 to have forged connecting rods?
