Radio wiring problems...
Hi guys, I just bought a 99 f250 reg cab 4x4 xlt. The previous owner just cut all the wires behind the plug for the headunit. So now I have multiple wires and no idea which ones go where. I have found ground, and what i believe is the battery/power wire. I get about .51 volts when the key is off and when I turn the key on I have 12.+ So I have this hooked to my yellow wire on my head unit, and my ground connected also. I cant figure out which wire is my ignition. If I touch my red wire from my head unit to every wire in the harness the unit never comes on. Ive tried on two seperate units that I know both work. Anyways does any one have some good wiring diagrams? Ive been searching for a couple days and cant seem to find a diagram that matches my wires. Also im not aware of if the truck originally had a cd, just am fm, etc. thank you for any help

Most of them should be color coded from an aftermarket harness. I know the Walmart brand comes in the the package with the wire colors if you already have a harness might as well just buy the one from there look at it then take it back. Hope it helps. Good luck

Since I have my wiring harness package laying around for my 2000 F350 maybe its the same for yours.
red: 12 volt ignition/acc yellow: 12 volt battery/memory black*: ground (*=ground aftermarket radio to chassis of vehicle, if black wire is not present) blue: power antenna blue/white: amp turn-on black/white: amp ground orange: illumination orange/white: dimmer + orange/black: dimmer - brown: phone mute gray: right front + gray/black: right front - white: left front + white/black: left front - violet: right rear + violet/black: right rear - green: left rear + green/black: left rear - Packaging is also in Spanish. If you want them in espanol, tough luck. Hope these color codes work for ya |

Those color wires are the colors of all aftermarket wiring (harnesses and radios), not the truck's factory wiring.
5004, your "yellow" wire should have 12v+ at all times. |
