Flushing the coolant

So i've had my Excursion a little over two weeks. Took care of the oil, filters, and did a tranny flush. I'm left with the coolant flush now and I'm confused on what kind to use. I've read a couple different things that say I should be using the ELC coolant because of the year it is (03, 7.3) but it currently has the green stuff. Don't know if I should do the red when I flush it out or if I should do green. If I can pull of the red I'd prefer it so I don't have to worry about additives for cavitation.

Boy, I don't know for sure, But I thought by '03 Everything had ELC.

Are you positive it's green? (the original was kinda "yellow" and, when old could look dark and maybe green). When I got my '02 I was confused and had a hard time telling what it was I had (turned-out to be Yellow once I drained some)

The worst case scenario would be that some Ya-Hoo added green to top it off at some point, hope not....

Take a good look at it again, in Any case I would do the Big Time flush. Pull the plugs in the block, run distilled water in it twice (drain & refill) then put the ELC in.

The '03 did have green coolant. Use the ELC red and you will be fine. NAPA has it, usually in stock.

Wow, that's interesting, I guess it's about the factory where the truck was assembled, and what they were using....

Be aware though, that the ELC and green (silica based) coolants will NOT blend and it's REALLY important you EVERY bit of the green out if you change (the Big Flush)

Oh yeah I am doing the big flush and planned on using red ELC but was worried about why mine looked green.

noralph, my coolant may just be the yellow really dirty. I'd guess that this is the case and it may have had some green added to it. Oh well it's getting taken care of before too long.
