oil change

I'm new to diesel power. I want to change the oil in my 2000 7.3, but am not sure how to. I have performed many oil changes on gasoline vehicles, but am not sure of differences in the diesel engine. Can someone please help? Is there a website I can visit or can someone give me instructions?

Also, does anyone use synthetic products like Amsoil. Are they any good? Are their claims of 25,000 between changes accurate?

Thanks.

Same as a gas only lots more oil and bigger filters! lol Takes 15 quarts of oil and you will need a new copper washer for the oil drain plug. Amsoil is good oil and I think they only recommend that kinda mileage with there EAo filters.

one thing to keep in mind is that there are two version of engine oil: One for diesel engine, the other for gas. i wouldn't care what the oil manufacturer says on their interval, i wouldn't go beyond 5k miles. i personally use the 15/40 Chevron Delo.

Just to add to that I feel the same about intervals as I don't go over 5000 miles, but there is lots of people doing extended drains. If you decide thats for you go with someone like Blackstone Laboratories to send you oil sample in and they will be able to tell you if you can go with extended drains or not
