2000 7.3 cuts out on highway

I recently purchased a 2000 F250 4x4. It is my first diesel so im clueless about trouble shooting. I bought it from the original owner and was heavily documented on the maintainance. it has 192k. It runs great however I was going down the highway yesterday and it acted like it cut out really quickly. It did this 2 to 3 times and on the final time the service engine light came on. it ran fine after that and when I got home, I shut the trk down and restarted and the service engine light went off. any ideas as to what im dealing with?
Im new so be gentle

thanks

pull codes. could be CPS or UVCH, etc. post the codes here.

i dont know SD's well enough to know if an auo parts store OBDII reader will read them. I know with the OBS you have to have AE or something with Ford progaming, is htat the case with SD's too?

I'm not sure. I think the auto parts store scanner will work. My first thought was cps but I'm a rookie. I hope that's all it is. Hopefully someone will know. Thanks

sounds like it may also be fuel related a little bit...

sounds fuel related and if it cut off it could be anything from low fuel in tank letting air in the fuel lines to plugged fuel filter.

go and change your fuel filter and see if that does anything...

would a bad fuel filter make the check engine light come on though? you can go to an auto parts store and use an obd2 scan tool and it will pull the codes. once you have the codes you can google the code, or post your codes on here. good luck
