I'm still new to owning and learning more than just the basics about diesels, I have heard that common rail is the way to go..... My 1st question is why is that? more pressure? and the second is what's the difference between the CR and the system on the 7.3? But anyways sorry for the slight here is a bump to finding out what 7.3 has made the most HP numbers...

Dockboy's up there as far as #'s go... I think he dyno'ed at a max of 756 on NOS, and puts out under 600 on #2. I spoke with him, and I'm not sure he wants me to repeat this, but basically he is getting tired of breaking bottom ends which cost several thousdand dollars to fix each time.

There is a guy in NJ who's online handle is "Thuglike" and IIRC he out did Dockboy on the dyno, but not at the track. I almost had the oppurtunity to meet this guy, but he never showed up @ the track last fall. Hopefully I'll meet him August 11th @ the track.

Cale's truck @ BTS is the fastest fullweight 7.3 afaik, but it's an OBS single cab that runs 11.5's or better. He's dyno'd beyond 756, but I'm not sure exactly what his #'s are.

Unless you have 30k to spend - don't push your motor that far. Chip it, injectors, turbo's, other bolt-ons and stay away from the giggle gas!

Running a hydraulic actuated injector in the Powerstroke is somewhat like controlling spark timing on a gas engine with a rubber band. It works OK at slower engine speeds but up at higher engine rpm's the fuel cycle beginning point/cutoff point is giving everybody performance headaches to say the least. The 6.0 injectors had better performance electronics but still dosen't control precise fuel delivery like the common rail system.

That's the main reason we don't see exorbitant HP numbers with the 7.3's. Than we try to make up for injector downfalls by using excessive drugs and stuff busts. I've used the "hand basket" myself picking up parts.

IMO, Cummins ain't the answer. Common rail is..
