All of the 7.3's in my family never came with a cat. Two 2000's one 02 and one 03.

My 02 came from the factory w/no cat.
Not to disagree with stroketech, but I thought it was more of a destination thing too, because i've heard of(not seen)02's with cats on them.

Whatever year it is, there will be a sticker under the hood near the belt diagram that refers to a "catalytic converter" or a "catalyst" if it originally had one on it.

No sticker-No Problem

It's not a big deal for you since your out of warranty. For us 6.0 guys its a risk taking them off because if something goes wrong on the motor the dealer is going to try and do everything in there power to void your warranty claim.

the guys u asked to come over and help u put on a new system said no because its illegal?? hmmm. for one, they obviously dont have a sweet sounding and high flowing exhaust and 2.. they are worried for the wrong reason, u can take it off, yes it may be illegal, but only the owner would get in trouble and that is only if he gets caught. the only people i have ever heard of not wanting to take the cat off because for them it is illegal is a muffler or exhaust shop...
Mine is an 01 and come to think of it, i dont know for sure if mine has a cat either... i will have to check in a few weeks.

Who cares and who's asking.

If you're getting it inspected, they can look up the model year and will see that it only came with a muffler. I had the same problem until they looked it up. early 99's came with cat's near the DP, but after that until the 03 sickO's came out - there were no cat's on Powerstrokes (barring california since they have wacky rules)....

Bigcountrysg,
did you get the new exhaust installed yet?
Just curious about the sound difference/EGT difference.
