My vote is for a 2000. Bigger injectors, 17* HPOP, and forged connecting rods.
Theres a thread that spells this out somewhere. 99's have smaller injectors and 15* HPOPS. Sometime in 01 the connecting rods went to PMR's. Hopefully someone with more intel will chime in. Kinda new to the Powerstrokes. |

Ya I mean if you are wanting to build it to 400+ HP the PMR would come into the equation but if not PMR's will be fine. Personally I would get a 7.3L with the newer headlights(I hate mine), maybe one that has had a newer transmission installed, new front end parts bearings, tie rod ends, ball joints. Look for too much play in the steering wheel either its the steering gear or tie rods ends or maybe something else. Look for oil leaks how it starts in the cold stuff like that for starters

i love my 02, better interior, etc. yeah PMR's but they're just fine as said.

I agree on the better looks and interiors. Bang for the buck in my area was in the 99 and 00 years so I opted for a lil less comfort and a lot more truck. Something to consider if money is in the equation.

thanks guys i have found a 99 with 59000 miles but the front of the engine was covered with oil underneath. also found 2001 with 143000, but have not got to go see it yet.

Depends where the oil is coming from if its a big deal or not. I personally like when there are a few issues, its great bargaining power and I fix my own junk. I would be more concerned with pulling the intake boot and looking at the compressor wheel, and whether or not the tranny is stock if its auto. Both my fiances and my buddys autos went at 100k. One was stock, the other was chipped. If your not sure what to look for Id spend 100 bucks and have a shop check it out.
