Block Heater Cable/Plug

Not real sure where I should post this to.

I was going thru the various posts a while back (probably late summer), and noticed that somebody had modified the Block Heater Cable/Plug so the plug end was thru, or attached to the bumper. Has any body seen something like this?

Also, can just the plug be replaced? Two of the three wires in my '01 Block Heater Plug are broken. Ford wants $65 for a new cable, and there are none available in Parts Stores (NAPA says it's a Dealer only item).

Thanks for the info.

Checked ebay. bwillis, the cable indicated in your link is for the 6.0/6.4L PSD. I have an '01 7.3L. Not sure I trust a 6.0/6.4L configuration. If 6.0/6.4L configuration works for the 7.3L, Ford wouldn't have separate P/N's and charge different prices. The one for the 7.3L is $70 for the cable alone.

If the broke wires are at the plug end you can cut the old plug off, cut the wires back so all are the same length and install a new 3 prong plug end. I have done it to mine......Fred
