2002 Headlights have quit working -

2002 F350 with auto headlights.

Realized tonight, with the assistance of an officer, that I had no headlights.

Normally, I drive in the Auto position and never give it a thought.

Tonight, no headlights - high or low beam.

I do have cab lights, dash lights, parking lights, blinkers, brake lights, license plate illumination, fog lights and I can flash high beams (so I assume at least those bulbs are good).

I have checked fuses 7, 30, 46, 47 and they are good.

Only recent change to the truck as that I recently (last week) installed a PHP chip. This was the first time driving the truck at night since then but I know I had headlights when we left the house and headed to town. Had headlights to the restaurant. Apparently, no lights at any point after that. Had to return home with fog lights only.

Any similar experiences or suggestions on what else to check / how to check?

im assuming there is proabably a relay for headlights, i'd start there, or maybe even the headlight switch itself?

As an update for those who might have similar problems, I started working backwards through the schematics and finally traced it down to an intermittent problem with the turn signal / multifunction switch in the steering column.

Started with fuses per the owners manual.

Then, checked power to the main headlight switch and confirmed power.

Then, check cable connectors with pinouts which lead from the headlight switch to the turn/signal - multifunction switch. In that process, the loose connection was located and with some contact cleaner at least temporarily resolved.
