Dual Alternator

I have a 1999 Ford E-350 4x4 with a 7.3 Liter diesel.
How do I add a second alternator to this engine?

You can engineer your own set up, and get a new belt that will be long enough to fit on the truck with the second alternator. Or you can get the kit. I have seen it before but I don't remember where. Or you can try a junkyard to get the mount. Some trucks had two alternators. Or you can flop down the money for the real big alternator. Then you just have to run the single alternator.

This would be a great Mod to be added to the 7.3 Tech Files provided anyone has actually done it <hint hint>

Anyway, in answer to your question I think the scrap yards might be your best bet for the E-350. A lot of those trucks were used as ambulances. All of our ambulances use the dual alternator set-up so I think it would be safe to say that if you can find an E-350 ambulance in the bone yard you will probably have your problem solved in one shot...

Good luck!

Joshua
