Transmission Module

Hello everyone this is my first post on this site so if I get it wrong let me know.
I live in Australia and have an 04 F250 (I believe 03 in US) and I am planning mild upgrades to the vehicle so will be asking a few questionsover time.

I have been advised that the Transcommand module improves the performance of the auto transmission and removes that terrible lag when reverse gear is selected. It all sounds good but I have also heard that it can damage the standard transmission so can anyone throw any light on this.
