I have 2000 F450 7.3L Looking for scanner/code reader. the engine tag says it is OBDII Exempt and I was told regular OBDII reader would not work. The truck does have OBDII style plug.....thanks for any info

if your asking if a regular obd2 reader will read codes yes and no. it will only read generic codes. to get all which would include manufaturer codes you would need AE or something like the matco or snap-on scanners.

False!! Our trucks are non OBDII compliant due to their GVWR. Just because the plug is the same doesn't mean a thing. If you just want a cheap code reader look on Ebay for a old Superchips programmer. Don't use the tunes on it just use it read and clear codes. If you want something that run diagnostic tests and read IDM codes than get the AE software. This will easily pay for itself the first time you got to use it. PM me with any ?
