Bearings?
This may have been asked a hundred times before, I apologize. I have been searching and reading and just got more confused.
I noticed on my 2002 4x4 F-350 that the front passenger wheel had some ridiculous cupping, or wear, like it was skipping on the outside shoulder of the tire... So I took the wheel off to see if it was out of balance...nope...dampners are new ish, (8000 mile bilstiens). So here is the kicker, when I turn the rotor, i can hear what sounds like a loose piece of metal, like a loose ball inside, it sounds like something is loose and moves maybe three times in a rotation. kind of like a scrape scrape scrape in one 360 degree rotation of the wheel/rotor etc. Does this sound like a wheel bearing? I am trying to figure out what parts to order instead of ripping the hub down and having the truck out longer... Thanks for any help and please feel free to ask for clarification. |

Are you sure it is not rubbing on the brake pads. As for the cupping on the tires it could be wheelbearings or ball joints.

Oh, Ball joints are new with dampners. Fairly certain its not the pads.
My mileage is still ok... 14 to 15 mpg... I am planning on changing out pads and rotors, just cuz the stock ones suck. But that noise...its ot pads, its in the hub. |
