CCV mod crankcase pressures??? help..

Just curious, I changed out or wrather unhooked the ccv vent. I used 5/8 heater hose, about 3 feet of it, and put a small breather in the end of it and alloowed it to vent to the atmosphere. In doing so, it was no longer putting this back into the air filter induction system. My question is, it started allowing smoke to come out the top? I then removed the oil filler cap and saw more smoke. No crazy excessive pressures or anything, but is this normal? I was going to do the ccv mod the right way but wanted to check this out first. Odviously this hose is a vent for the motor. Whats normal?
thx

If your gonna just vent it to the atmosphere I wouldn't put anything in the end of the hose it will eventually get oil soaked & might plug up. Did you run the hose up over the brake booster? That will keep some of the oil from running out the hose.
