Just had a new rebuilt engine put in last month and came with new water pump. I had him pull this one off my old engine due to it having only 10k on it.

Just replaced mine last week with an Airtex, needed replacing since before I bought the truck in June! Borrowed the correct airhammer tool for the clutch fan, not too bad of a job, but best of luck to you to re-install the clutch fan on the pulley, they should have used a little larger thread pitch!

Friend that is a mechanic had some type of special RTV that he suggests using on the o-rings at certain points. Also used RTV on the thermostat housing. He bragged he could do a 7.3 water pump in 20 minutes, took me all of an hour and a half

I would like to know if there is a recommended/preferred water pump as well? I have a small leak, and I'm guessing it is coming from the weep hole. I can't see anything leaking out of hoses or fittings.

I know **** happens and that YMMV but I am replacing an Airtech that I put on my truck 20,000 miles ago. Factory one let go at 110,000 miles, now here I am replacing the water pump again at 133,000 miles. Airtech is so confident in their product that they offer a 12 month warranty. What a joke.
I am replacing mine with a NAPA reman, at least it comes with a lifetime warranty. I am also going to add a coolant filter.

yeah I figured I would stay away from the new china stuff and went with a reman with lifetime warranty!

Just got done with the job and it looks like it needed it, the fins on the old pump were rubbing on the housing......... that can't be good ha.
