starter acting weird

On a few occasions during the last few years the starter has cranked 3-4 times and then stopped...it may have stopped on it's own or I may have let off too soon anticipating a quick start...never really had to think about it.

However, in the last couple days, this has happened twice. Turn the key, it turns over a couple times and just stops turning over. Turn the key again and it turns over and starts right up.

Any ideas?
