Changed my Brakes, Have a Question

I changed the front brakes in my X. The first time I have done it. I replaced the brakes and rotors. I noticed the caliper bleeder valve has a long nipple and a hose attached to it, or more just kind of on it not really attached i guess. what is this hose and where does it go? Both sides are in pretty bad shape. at first I thought they were just dust covers but I traced them up and they go up into the engine bay. Just curious what they are for and if I need to replace the hose...

It sounds like you are looking at the vacuum lines on the ESOTF 4x4.
