changing rear diff cover and fluid-couple questions

im swapping out the cover and fluid today. im having a hell of time finding the fluid capacity for the rear diff. if im doing the conversion correctly its 2.5 quarts.
as for the diff cover,do i have to use a gasket or will liquid gasket alone be ok?
