Dogin the tranny

How hard is it on an automatic to dog the transmission like putting it in 1st gear to slow the truck down goin down hill? I'm not doin it with a load and I'm only goin 20-25mph tops just when I'm up in the hills hunting. I used to do it with my 5speed in my old truck on the pass but this is my first Auto and not sure if it's good to do or not the tranny temps never went up or anything.

meh i dont worry about it. ya temps will warm up faster on a cold trans but if your cooler works and keep an eye on the temps, you should be fine.

i just do it some times for the fun of it when slowing down.

Ya I don't do it all the time I just hate hittin my brakes every 5 seconds

Can you explain exactly what you are doing here? Like engine braking with an auto?? Confused..

He's forcing the trans to downshift to slow the pickup

Ya putting it in first gear when I'm goin down hill to slow the truck down so I don't have to keep using the brakes
