Starter Bolts
Okay guys need some help on a repair.
Attempted to start truck and there was a small bang and then a free spinning noise. After checking the starter I found one bolt laying under the truck and the other on loose still in the bell housing and one of the ears on the starter broken off. Ordered a starter from Ford and installed and found the the bolt that had backed out had caused the threades in the bell housing to stretch, will only torque to 8 lbs then spins freely. The other bolt torques to 17 lbs Alright my question is, what would be the best repair to make to the threads in the bell housing? Any help is greatly appreciated Thanks Ron P |

Drill out the bolt hole, re tap, and use a bigger bolt for new hole. Or JB Weld.

What do you guys think about a heli-coil or insert?

You can try a heli-coil..The bolts dont go into the bell housing though, there is an adapter ring that goes in between the engine and tranny.I had to replace mine a couple months ago

How many bolts are on the stock starter? I know I have a db electrical and only have two but looked to be a spot for a third.

My starter has two bolts, the lower of the two is the one that wirrbled out. I think Im going to go with a heli-coil, any one against that repair?
