Loud humming at higher RPM under load

I've did a good amount of searching, but with no results or with the wrong keywords. My 7.3 has about 192k on it and I've noticed when I rev to about 2200rpms, there is a noise that reminds me of the sound a rotary engine makes as the RPMs get real high. It's not really high pitched, but definitely noticable. I figured maybe the engine has a similar warning system, but I think 2200 is a bit low for such warning, though I could be wrong as this is the first diesel engine I've messed with.

Does such thing exist and if not, I wonder what could be making the noise. I'm lost at where to begin really.

2200 RPMs is not high. Are you sure you're not just hearing the turbo spool up??

well it is not suppose to happen. But these are noisy motors so it might be normal. Get someone to listen to it that knows about these motors.

They will let you know.

It's definitely not the turbo spooling up, though part of that did cross my mind as possibly the bearings being bad or the shaft being out of balance. I've had a turbo where the impeller would ride against the compressor housing as it spooled, but it didn't sound like this.

Seems to be related to the load and not RPM. I'm still not too comfortable with the truck's limits so I have not been pushing it hard at all except tonight I wanted to figure out exactly where the noise is coming from. It seems like I get it to make the noise when in 4th around the 2200 - 2400 range under WOT. It seems to be coming more from the transmission area rather than up front with the engine. The first thing that comes to mind is the clutch slipping or at least trying to though all clutch slippage I've felt before on an ACT 6-puck disc made no noise. The RPMs just quickly rose.

I am assuming the disc is a solid disc and not a puck style. I can't really think of anything else at this time that could make such a noise. I wish I could capture good audio of it.

Bringing this back... probably could use a different thread title. Here is a video I took today with my phone. Audio is more important than the video anyway. Around 2600rpms is when the loud hum or whatever that is starts. I feel no change in the RPM, speed, or anything else. I sounds like it's coming from either the front part of the transmission/rear of the engine, but it's hard to tell. I can't think of what it could be.

At that rpm and under wot that is probably making max boost you wouldn't have a rubber boot on the turbo pipes leaking would you that doesn't sound like a mechanical noice more like a wierd whistiling noise to me.

It's possible... I'm not ruling it out. I don't have a boost gauge and I'm not sure what it should be making right now, but I would think before 2600 I'd be at max pressure and that it would happen then too. It's also pretty immediate. I would think as pressure built the noise would gradually get louder.
